Also, there is a skill to writing problem/suspense/resolution. If your author is not doing that well chapter by chapter, the ending will not suddenly be better. You might enjoy suspense, but that doesn't mean the author is writing that well.

The solution is simple. If you are not enjoying the book, do not try to set down the book. Instead, read ahead to find out the resolution. You have hands! Take out the hook!
